Filicudi (Phoenicusa) is geologically the oldest of the Aeolian Islands. It is composed of small living groups, all reachable by automobile.
Among the most essential to point out is Filicudi Port with the renowned restaurant Da Nino sul mare (tel. 090.9889984), Val di Chiesa, Pecorini Mare where it is possible to eat at the famous restaurant Pellegrino (tel. 090.9889997), and Rocca di Ciauli.
At the centre of the island is the nightclub “La Rosa,” which is associated with the restaurant and pension of the same name Villa La Rosa (tel. 090.9889965), and the elegant hotel and restaurant La Canna (tel. 090.9889956).
It is easy to have a relaxing excursion along the small pathways on the steep slopes of the island. For those who love hiking the most interesting excursion, without doubt, is the Fossa Felci, reaching a height of 773 meters, it is the highest point on the island. Equally interesting is the site at the prehistoric village, where a score of huts have been excavated that were presumably constructed in the Bronze age. The artefacts of this archaeological site are kept in the Archaeological Museum of Lipari.
It is possible to admire the savage beauty of the island even better by taking a boat tour. Renting a typical Aeolian boat (gozzo) it is possible in some hours to visit the famous Grotto del Bue Marino, in front of this emerges the rock La Canna to a height of 85 meters, and underwater nearby is the Grotto of Shrimp a favourite site for scuba diving that provides for an unforgettable submersion.
